Bush vines grown in river pebble covered shale soils.
The 2019 is again a blend of 50% Touriga Nacional and 50% Syrah from 14 year old bush vines grown in river pebble and shale. Picked on the same day and co-fermented, the wine spent 2 weeks on skins before being aged for 11 months in neutral oak foudre. A lot of the work has been done to fine tune the blend, like the 100% destemming. This has resulted in one of the most plush, opulent and seamlessly harmonious reds in the range. The aromatics retain their underlying dark, plumy, black fruit complexity with intriguing nuances of blueberry pie, black currant confit and sweet melted black liquorice candy. The palate incredibly shows a level of refinement with tangy acids, sweet savoury velvet tannins, a fleshy luxurious core of black currant and blueberry fruits and a finish with the most suave, fine grained mineral texture possible. All in all, the 2019 shows a little more refinement, a pinch more plushness and a polished finess. Drink from release or over the next 5 – 10+ years.

“A reference to its out-of-the-way source, Are We There Yet? is an equal blend of Touriga Nacional and Syrah from Sijnn property in Malgas. Fermented without stems for the first time because it already had plenty of structure and extraction, this is inky, dense and appealingly wild with masses of violet and fynbos aromas, red and black fruits and the structure to age. Drink 2022-27.”
