This was a once off project of a vineyard we stumbled upon. The vineyard was planted in 1977 on Paarl’s side of the Paardeberg (so literally just outside of the Swartland region), on basically decomposed granite with some clay as you go deeper down. The block is actually a mix of at least 10 varieties (might even be more) planted together. We’ve picked only the Chenin blanc out by hand. The grapes was pressed whole bunch and then we fermented the juice naturally in Concrete eggs. The wine was kept on the lees for the remainder of the year, which is approximately 8 months, and then bottled.
With everything taken into account, this is truly an unique wine. Commercially available only in Estonia, you may see some bottles of it in Eben’s cellar under Naboth label.
