Our Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted on the highest vineyards on the Estate, on the slopes
of the Helderberg Mountain range, facing False Bay. The early morning breezes cool the vines,
which contributes to the superb natural acidity in the grapes. Decomposed granite soils contribute to the
minerality on the palate.
ORIGIN: Helderberg, Stellenbosch
ASPECT: Predominantly South-West facing slopes
SOIL: Decomposed granite soils – Tukulu
ALTITUDE: 400 – 470 m above sea level
PROXIMITY TO THE OCEAN: 9 km from False Bay
VINTAGE CONDITIONS
A cool and wet ripening season meant little irrigation was necessary yet
careful canopy management was required to avoid vigorous vineyard growth.
Uneven budding was experienced on certain cultivars, which was carefully
managed, but others, like Sauvignon Blanc thrived. Veraison was earlier than
in the previous season, and was even, due to our cool climate location.
Precipitation during the ripening period delayed harvest and management of
the accompanying disease pressure was necessary. Despite the challenging
season, our well managed vineyards produced high-quality grapes.
OPTIMUM SERVING TEMPERATURE: 12 – 14 °C
TASTING NOTES
COLOUR Clear
NOSE Tropical opulence on the nose showcasing passion fruit, kiwi and a twist of
lime with subtle blackcurrant lift complemented by whispers of fynbos and
lemongrass.
PALATE The palate shows a dense, well-balanced structure with lovely texture.
Tropical edginess of papaya and passion fruit make way for some herbal
notes and a delectable, dry, blackcurrant finish.
