There are few varietals that capture our cool climate terroir as succinctly as Cabernet Franc, a cultivar that thrives in precise pockets of the Helderberg’s cooler terroir. Uva Mira’s Cabernet Franc vineyards are planted on Tukulu soils, on the west-facing slopes of the Estate, at altitudes as high as 470 metres above sea level. These cooler slopes create the ideal terroir for Cabernet Franc, which benefits from longer ripening periods before harvest. A golden thread runs through all Uva Mira’s handcrafted wines which speaks of elegance and this remains true with The Mira Cabernet Franc.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
A delayed, but good, winter rainfall allowed for adequate replenishing of reserves. A cool and wet spring allowed soil profiles to become well saturated. Winter was not as cold as the previous year but there was sufficient building up of reserves. A cool budding period was experienced with delayed bud break. Veraison occurred later and ripening was prolonged due to low day temperatures which allowed for exceptional colour and flavour in the berries. A vintage showing high quality wines with good ageing potential.
