100% Tinta Barocca
Treinspoor means railway line, as one runs through the vineyard). Made from Tinta Barocca grown west of Malmesbury. The vines are approximately 40-years old. Dark, brooding purple in colour, it comes across as shy and restrained at first, but then slowly opens up in the glass with delightful scents reminiscent of Christmas – sweet spices, cinnamon, nutmeg and nuances of smoked ham and cayenne pepper. The nose follows onto the palate with a spicy full body, lively acidity and grippy, yet refined tannins. Rich, inviting and intriguingly different.
All that could be said is that this is the red wine of the vintage. Every year our opinion of this vineyard and the Tinta Barocca variety just strengthens for it is clear that it is extremely well-adapted to the region. With the tension of tannin and the acidity it is clear that this is one of the best varieties for ageing. Just tasting through the bottling of this vineyard (from the late 60’s and 70’s) recently , we had an absolute confirmation thereof.
