“This wine commemorates the lifework of my father, O.T. Venter Senior. A mentor, advisor, oracle, a guiding light and inspiration to family and friends.” Ockert Tobias Venter, Owner Single varietals blended to enhance their individual virtues of flavour and texture. Rigourous selection is followed by meticulous blending. Flavours are balanced and complexity is accentuated. Predicting the future, imagining evolution. A wine of distinction that will be enhanced by careful cellaring and patience.

ORIGIN: Helderberg, Stellenbosch

ASPECT: North & North-West facing slopes

SOIL: Decomposed granite – Oakleaf, Tukulu

ALTITUDE: 300 – 400 m above sea level

PROXIMITY TO THE OCEAN: 9 km from False Bay

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

Winter started later and was warmer than normal but rainfall was good during the season. Above average temperatures in July resulted in uneven bud break and smaller berries on certain cultivars. Temperature fluctuations in September and October resulted in uneven bunches however weather conditions improved in November. A warmer February resulted in earlier harvesting of certain cultivars. Rain and cool conditions in March slowed down ripening of red wine varietals, which resulted in a later harvest at relatively lower sugar levels.

MATURATION: 18 months in French oak barrels, 70 % new

OPTIMUM SERVING TEMPERATURE: 17 – 18 °C

TASTING NOTES

COLOUR: Crimson red

NOSE: Layered, textured, deep with savoury red fruit aromatics and elegant whisps of tobacco leaf, cigar box and some oak notes. The mineral edge opens slowly but surely and seductively.

PALATE: The first impression is one of light elegant richness, but with signature concentration and a creamy texture. The well balanced powdery tannins are holding everything together tightly, but there is a beautiful feeling of expansion through the palate. Notes of tobacco leaf and a finish that goes on and on. A real sense of poise and subtlety in this wine which shows supreme ageing potential.

GRAPE VARIETY: 60 % Cabernet Franc; 40 % Cabernet Sauvignon
