Platter
The Platter‘s Wine Rating System uses a 100-point scale to evaluate the quality of South African wines, with points awarded based on appearance, aroma, taste, and overall quality.
+TASTING NOTES
Dark chocolate and toffee-caramel fused with liquorice root and spice on the nose. A limey palate entrance flows to a smooth tannin structure before ripe, sweet blueberry fruit flavours follow. Well-integrated oak is supported by good fruit intensity and lengthy flavours. This wine shows great depth of fruit and is kept fresh by a clean lime feel on the palate.
WINEMAKING
The fruit is handpicked at optimal ripeness. Fruits are then bunch-sorted to ensure that only the best is used in the fermentation process. A cold soak is employed for 3-4 days which encourages optimal colour and tannin extraction. The batches are inoculated with a pure yeast culture and regular pump-overs are used to ensure that enough oxygen is incorporated for a healthy ferment. 10% American oak is applied during the maturation period to compliment the pure ripe fruit and sturdy acidity of these fruits sourced from Paarl.
FOOD PAIRING SUGGESTION
The Petite Sirah, with its depth of flavour and soft mouthfeel, will ideally pair with an intensely flavoured meal, such as
braised oxtail served with freshly baked ciabatta bread.
AGEING POTENTIAL
With its depth of colour, refreshing acidity, spicy oak notes and ripe, smooth tannin structure, this wine will not easily be challenged by ageing possibilities.
One of only 6 Petite Sirah wines produced in South Africa. A wine that is as bold as it is impressive, boasting bags of flavour on the palate, yet a soft tannin appeal on the heart. Only 6 barrels of this splendid wine was produced, translated to just 1 620 bottles to enjoy!
