Exceptional dark colour; sweet raspberry fruit and forest floor aromas, followed through to the pallet and supported by a good tannin structure.
A medium bodied dry red wine.
The Bottelary Hills are not known for Pinot Noir plantings and this un-irrigated vineyard is planted as a rare experiment on the highest and coolest south–east facing terroir on Kaapzicht Estate. The low potential weathered granite soil gives yields of < 5 tons per hectare, which results in small berries with a large proportion of skin to juice, thus ensuring a dark colour and high concentration of flavours.
Grape Varieties: 100%Pinot Noir
Grapes were picked at full ripeness (25,8 ºB), fermented in stainless steel tanks. The gentle action of pump overs 3-4 times a day produced a wine with a soft tannin structure. After a light pressing the Pinot Noir underwent malolactic fermentation. We used older French oak barrels for 12 months, so that the wood would not dominate the delicate fruit.
Drink now and enjoy the vibrant youthfulness. You will be well rewarded with increased complexity and integration by cellaring for 6-10 years.
Delicious served with duck and cherry source.
